GROSBEAK

In May,  a Black Headed Grosbeak at our makeshift feeder.  Thanks to Ryan Baker for the ID.

Sparrows taking a Dirt Bath in the garden

The sparrows love to take dirt baths in the dirt alongside our veranda.

Here a sparrow rests on the cherry tomato plant in our back yard.

The sparrows fill up the tomato plants, sometimes 20 of them at a time.  They mainly eat the bugs and only occasionally munch on a tomato. It is amazing how much they leave for us.  There must be lots of bugs in there!

Here is a humming bird who spent a lot of time in our garden this year.  He loved the roses, cosmos and delphiniums.  Here he had just had his fill and was resting on the wire fence I use to keep Winslow from watering the cosmos.  I added the profile here because he looks just like a fat little sparrow until you see how long his humming bird beak is.  He came onto the porch to feed on the jasmine topiary too.
